What Covid-19 Pandemic Taught Me — self opinions

Is it true that our lives are on pause?

I think not many people see this coming, things like: disease or virus in the movie that come attacking people, spreading and then government need to do lockdown or isolation, then every humans on earth are panicking trying to safe their ass — I meant, themselves.

Then people are locked in and can't go anywhere. People are stocking up food, drink, masks, hand sanitizer and even toilet papers. I believe some Indonesian can survive from not using toilet papers. Then things get worst. Some stores are closed, prohibitted by government to open.

I, myself, won't ever think that one day every things related to education, entertainment and every other things, every aspects of economy need to be closed, everything is redirected from offline to online. Hospitals' crews are overwhelmed by the crowds of covid-19 patients and goes the same for burial sites, I think they're overwhelmed to burnt the corpes, too.

Okay, I'll not tell any more about those common information that you can already know from the news.

I personally thought that, probably if something terrible will happen, it won't happened now, but maybe in ten or hundred years but definitely not in our era. But that definitely wrong thought.

I have ever been passing the term where I will be jobless for about a month of two, when school are having holiday. Then for the many years I worked at that field, I think I have come to the term Oh okay the period is coming again. Period of having no income. At all.

Pretty tough, right?

So every income you get for months before is only for my survival for one or two months. I can't save a lot. Sometimes I save zero money. So people who said private tutoring or teaching can make you rich, better to think it again.

So... I become jobless 3 months earlier than predicted. I hate my job: teaching. I never wanted to teach since I was kid. I was a bright kid when I was in primary school, but then I could slowly see myself downgrading. Everything seems downgrading in my life.

So, what have I learned from these past four months of self quarantine and being jobless?
A lot.

What I learnt during these phases of having no income, no job, stuck at home and can't go anywhere and do anything:

1. It was good at the beginning.
Sorry, kids, for your safety we're all have to put schools on holiday.
Yeay!

That would be my very first reaction. Everybody does. But it was only good in the beginning. You got time to just leisurely laying in bed and binge watching. Eating and cooking. Reading and painting. Then it started to taste like chunky shit that camouflage as chocolate cookies when your money slowly disappear, whether it is to buy food and groceries, and you already don't do shopping: buy books, new clothes, less buying bobba drink and starting to make your own.

Your safety money which is not a lot is having deficit day by day, week by week. You even spend too much time at home. And your parents start bragging asking you to come back to work or even look for another job in the middle of pandemic.

Mom, nobody wants to be jobless and having no income.

2. You must have money in your account.
You Only Live Once.

Watch out of that sentence. Everybody knows live only once. But not many people can apply same perception for YOLO.

For workaholic, you only live once, so you can go hang out with your friends, go eat out, go travel and explore the world, use and spend your money that you have earned very hard this whole time.

For worker with small salary, you only live once, so you need to save money a lot by not shopping a lot, not eating out, and build a side hustle using money one third of money you saved so you can earn more, and then you will be finally financially free one day - sooner. Or so you can travel somewhere and enjoying you hard work pay off.

Now you see the difference?

Having money in your account could at least make you breathe for awhile. Though, you only have a little money in your account, it can help you to survive for days or weeks, or at least you can use those money to recycle by buying some things you can sell or cook for sell. Or subscribe to a new app to learn new skill you can apply, your to buy internet data to make your internet small business.

3. You must have an online business or income resource.
If you have anything in your thought right now, start it!

Never ever waste a second to hesitate. Think of useful things and upload it on internet whether it is in video, blog, instagram story. Just do it. No time is perfect. You can't be famous or your name can sell things just in few days. You need longer time than that to even can apply for monetizing on YouTube, and time for people to know and like you. You need time to start your small business up, which can take YEARS!

Videos which are suddenly having millions watchers are videos that have been uploaded months or years ago. Or they made a content in very right timing. Nobody would ever think making dalgona coffee videos would ever gained hundred thousands of watchers only in weeks. Thanks to this self quarantine moment, I think?

I don't think many people would think of making own dalgona coffee if they aren't forced to stay at home and can't go anywhere.

Being ready + right moment = hitting jackpot!

That goes the same for you to not waking up so late and ending up taking shower in the evening, and then suddenly post man screaming in front of your door delivering stuffs but you are so messy, stink and pale with eyes dirt still on your eyes.

4. You must have side hustle.
Believe me, joining an organization which gives you profit by giving you salary, connection or maybe a future investment. Selling small stuffs on internet, won't hurt you. Or maybe you're silently a writer which gaining passive income. Or maybe you are selling clothes or clay earring through online. Or maybe you do digital painting and start to design your own phone cases for sale. Go have a side hustle.

It seems like points I wrote so far are only related to money. Which you think is better: for crying in a BMW or on a bicycle? People said money can't buy you happiness, but it does give you freedom. Doesn't mean everything must be all about money but it is.

5. You must keep living.
Not every thing you start doing during this pandemic will grow in advance or succeed. Your money starts to disappear, you are running out creativity and motivation. But somehow you need to stay alive. It will be hard to wake up in the morning and feel motivated. Probably you will choose to go back to sleep. You won't need to think or spend money. But it only becomes your comfort zone for awhile.

Everyone around you keeps evolving. They are slowly upgrading their lives. Even the earth is rotating and doing revolution. You go out, see nature, listen to calming and nature music on YouTube, find an inspiration. Go write, pour out your feeling, inspiration, thought, etc.

I ain't an expert, but from my experience, when you still have job which you can go to though you hate it a lot, still be grateful for it as you still can get income, save a lot of it in your account, and during your comfortable moment by having monthly income where you don't feel lack of money, that's the moment you need to make or build a side hustle. It can be anything. During that moment, improve your skills and knowledge, too. And never waste a day, do whatever thing you want.

A little advice for you:
No matter how gloomy the sky is when you are about to go out, don't  step down your will. Who knows it is gloomy only in particular area but it is shining so bright in your destination area?

xx- Christina
