Days in Ubud, Bali☀️ [pt 1]

Welcome back to my Bali's blog! You can check out my other blogs about Bali, too!

In this page I'll share about days we spent in Ubud, Bali. Ubud is a district in Bali where it is so different from Kuta. Ubud is a district where it is all green and no beach, many smaller and tighter buildings and also quite quiet. In Ubud, you can visit Tegallalang Rice Terrace, Tampaksiring Holy Water, Temples -couldn't mention one as I haven't visit one but once you visit Tampaksiring Holy Water you can look around and find a temple, too. And Monkey Forest.

Once you are in Ubud —a bit far from the centre of Ubud, you'll see some rice terraces in small sizes. They're all sparkling brightly and so pretty at noon. When we first arrived in Ubud, without having any idea, we just booked the place to stay without really considering how far it is from the Ubud centre. Ubud and Legian, Kuta, and Seminyak are totally different! How's different? I'll explain later.

We chose to stay somewhere very natural inside the woods, but the woods is still accessible from the road. Only one problem was it is just too far from the centre. You couldn't go anywhere easily without having a scooter! And also there's no tv inside 😂

So when you're in Bali, rent a scooter is a must.
It will really help you a lot! Online taxi wasn't allowed in most places in Ubud, so yeah and it was kinda expensive to go to many tourists attraction places with taxi if you're on budget too.

You can rent scooters from your host, or hotel. That's the easiest. Or you can rent scooter from rental place along the road, some are already close at around 5pm. Make sure you do check your scooter, whether it has STNK (the long paper of the scooters), and try it when you start the scooter and don't forget, try the BRAKE. Rent price starts from 70.000 idr. Very rare to find price above than that.

When you plan to go to Ubud, make sure you can access your staying place easily and you have internet connection. You'll need that for direction, so if you're planning to stau in muted place in the woods is okay. One tip: you can still using your map without internet connection as long as you look for the direction while you're still having internet and don't close the map while you're on the road (without internet). Thanks Russian couple! We got that information from him :D

Day one, 4 km away from center Ubud.

We were lost for few hours on our first day in Ubud! It was scary that time because my phone didn't have battery anymore, we forgot to bring power bank, and Jan didn't have internet. We asked some people about the address of our stay but people were clueless. But to rethink about it now, why we don't just sit and chill? :D

Our happy face before we got lost 😂

The pathway into our stay.

Before we were lost, we met a guy who brought us to Luwak Sanctuary. One thing to be cautious was to stay alert when you stopped or looked around in Ubud. Some locals could know that you're tourist and they would offer and brought you to their places and to direct you to purchase their products. So, remember to be alert.

The guy that brought us to Luwak sanctuary was friendly and he really brought us to see and sit there to taste 14 kinds of tea!
Herbal tea, mangosteen tea, and avocado tea taste good!

The original luwak coffee itself was quite pricey for a cup. It tasted wry and very light. We couldn't finish our tea testers, it was too much. Then we were headed to a traditional store where those 14 kinds of tea are there. The price of those tea are various -btw the tea powder is in big sachet.

Our first purpose was to watch Kecak Dance or it is called as Tari Kecak, too bad it wasn't show yet. We need to come back at around 5 or 6 pm (I didn't really remember what time when Kecak Dance started). Fyi, there are many temples where you can watch Barong Dance performance. We watched it at Batubulan and we were 30 minutes late. Each person needs to pay about 100.000 idr.

For me personally it was less attractive as I imagined it to be, probably because we were late for half of the show. I'm thinking of going to watch Kecak Dance again but in another district.

Day two, 800 m from center Ubud.

In here, you started to feel the normal city life where the streets are tight but with lots of vehicles and big God and Goddesses statues, that was one of many amazing things in Bali. Lucky we booked the stay for four days in here, so we could access places easily and with the help of scooter. We with no idea at all, thinking that was close from our guest house to Monkey Forest Ubud, so we decided to walk. That was a huge mistake! lol

It was far! You couldn't order any online taxi. They won't take you. So we tried to reach Monkey Forest by walk, bought Cha Time on our way. That was the first time Jan tried Cha Time, since then Cha Time was the first thing he looks for for every day! Until now he hadn't succeeded to buy coffee in Cha Time in Ubud. Poor Jan. :D

Hello, monkeys! :D I will share things about Monkey Forest Ubud in another blog!

Finished walking around in huge Monkey Forest, we decided to rent scooter on our way back but it was too late, rental place was close. So we walked and walked. We stop by at small Italian or Mexican cafe to drink. It was draining! We also bought avocados, they were cheap ! Omg. But coconut was expensive there! The price range was from 25.000 idr ~ 40.000 idr, where I could buy it for 7.000 idr here in Pontianak. But yeah, however Bali is touristic place, so yeah. I also bought durian for Jan to try. His reaction was priceless lol.

Jan carried the coconut during our walk back. And during our walk, we found a gem! There was a Borneo 88 Restaurant. We quickly went back after shower for dinner.
Second day in Ubud, well spent.

Day three in Ubud.

Our host recommended us to go to Mount Batur and Tampaksiring Holy Water. So we decided to go to Tampaksiring Holy Water but canceled as it was so far and the road was really uphill.

Please make sure when you find route using google map, to choose Car logo instead of motorcycle logo. Because.... You won't know which road google map would lead you too 👀 From our experience, we decided to go to Tampaksiring to enjoy the cold water for the hot day. That plan suddenly changed once we one-third of the way where we were on downhill road. It was so creepy! You could see hill down there as there was no fence to protect the road.

So yeah, we went back and that time Jan drove the scooter. And... we went back for Cha Time and Borneo 88 Restaurant.
